What the Notion MCP connector does
The Notion connector for Mattering Automations covers the Notion API surface: create and update pages, query and modify databases, append and edit content blocks, manage comments, look up users, and search the workspace.
Every capability is a node you can drop on the Automations canvas and wire into a workflow, and every node speaks MCP, the open protocol for connecting AI assistants to tools. That means Claude, ChatGPT, and any MCP-capable assistant can use them, alongside Matter, the AI assistant built into the platform. Ask for a Notion workflow in plain language and watch it get built on the canvas in front of you.
Because Mattering is a full work platform rather than a middleware pipe, Notion nodes combine natively with your tasks, projects, and other connectors: no separate glue service between your automation tool and your work.

Connecting Notion takes one credential
Notion connects with an internal integration token. Create one in Notion under Settings, then Connections, then Develop or manage integrations (notion.so/my-integrations), and copy the secret it generates.
In Notion, create an internal integration and copy its secret token.
In Notion, open each page or database the automation should reach and add your integration under the page's Connections menu. The API can only see content that has been shared with the integration.
In Mattering Automations, open Connectors, choose Notion, and attach a secret holding the token.

Meeting notes that file themselves
An agent drafts structured meeting notes and creates them as Notion pages in the right database, with properties set, so the wiki stays current without anyone pasting.
Notion databases as automation data sources
Query a content calendar, CRM database, or tracker with filters and sorts, then feed the rows into the rest of a workflow: create tasks, send messages, or update other systems.
Two-way sync with project tasks
When work changes in Mattering Productivity, update the matching Notion database row, and create Notion pages when new projects kick off.
Agent-maintained documentation
Let an agent append changelog entries, update status blocks, or refresh a dashboard page on a schedule, using the block nodes to edit content in place.

Can an AI agent create and edit Notion pages through this MCP?
Yes. Matter and any MCP-connected assistant, including Claude and ChatGPT, can create pages, update page properties, append and edit content blocks, and archive pages or blocks, using the same 19 nodes available on the automation canvas.
Does this work with Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants?
Yes. Mattering exposes these nodes over MCP, an open protocol for connecting AI assistants to tools, so any MCP-capable assistant, including Claude and ChatGPT, can connect to your workspace and work with Notion through them. Matter, the assistant built into the platform, uses the same nodes natively.
Does it work with Notion databases?
Yes. Nodes cover creating databases, reading their schema, updating them, and querying rows with the Notion API's filter and sort options. Database rows are pages, so the page nodes handle creating and updating individual records.
Why can the connector not see one of my pages?
Notion integrations only see content that has been explicitly shared with them. Open the page or database in Notion, then add your integration under the Connections menu. Parent pages share access with their children.
What kind of credential does the connector use?
An internal integration token created in your Notion workspace. It is stored encrypted in Google Secret Manager and never appears in automation logs. Tokens can be rotated in Notion and updated on the connector at any time.
What are the Notion API rate limits?
Notion enforces rate limits per integration and returns a rate limited error when exceeded. Notion's developer documentation is the source of truth for the current limits. Typical automation workloads sit comfortably inside them.
What is not supported?
The connector uses Notion's public API, so anything the API does not expose is out of reach. Notion does not currently offer API access to some workspace level settings, and the connector does not manage members or billing.
How is this different from Zapier's Notion integration?
Mattering is the workspace, not just the pipe between two tools. Notion nodes combine with native tasks, projects, and AI agents in one platform, and Matter can build the workflow for you from a plain language description.
