What the YouTube MCP connector does
The YouTube connector for Mattering Automations covers the public read surface of the YouTube Data API v3 with four nodes: Search finds videos, channels, or playlists; Get Video returns a video's snippet, statistics, and content details; Get Channel returns channel metadata and statistics; List Comments fetches a video's comment threads.
Every node speaks MCP, the open protocol for connecting AI assistants to tools, so Claude, ChatGPT, and any MCP-capable assistant can use them, alongside Matter, the AI assistant built into the platform. An assistant researching a topic can search YouTube, pull the stats, and read the comments without leaving the workflow.
The connector runs on an API key, which is deliberately the public-data tier: nothing here can touch your channel, upload, or manage anything, making it safe to hand to agents for research and monitoring.

Create an API key in the Google Cloud console under APIs and Services, then Credentials, with the YouTube Data API v3 enabled on the project.

Can an AI agent research YouTube through this MCP?
Yes. Matter and any MCP-connected assistant, including Claude and ChatGPT, can search videos and channels, pull statistics, and read comment threads through the same four nodes available on the automation canvas.
Does this work with Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants?
Yes. Mattering exposes these nodes over MCP, an open protocol for connecting AI assistants to tools, so any MCP-capable assistant can connect to your workspace and use them. Matter, the assistant built into the platform, uses the same nodes natively.
Can it upload videos or manage my channel?
No, by design. The connector uses an API key, which covers public data only. Uploading, playlist management, and channel administration require OAuth scopes this connector does not request, so an agent holding this credential can read but never touch a channel.
What are the quota limits?
Google grants YouTube Data API projects a default quota of 10,000 units per day per Google's documentation, and different calls cost different units (search is the expensive one at 100 units per call, most reads cost 1). A daily monitoring workflow fits comfortably; heavy search loops need quota awareness.
What credential does it use?
A Google Cloud API key with the YouTube Data API v3 enabled, sent as a query parameter and stored encrypted in Google Secret Manager. One key can serve the other Google API-key connectors on the platform too.
Can it read comments on any video?
It can fetch public comment threads on videos where the uploader has comments enabled. Private videos and disabled comment sections are not reachable through the public API.
How is this different from Zapier's YouTube integration?
Zapier's YouTube triggers focus on new-video events; Mattering's nodes are research primitives an agent can compose: search, stats, and comments feeding native tasks, databases, and AI steps in one platform.
